Volleyball Court Flooring for Schools
Indoor volleyball season is right around the corner, and for those who are considering a new indoor volleyball court for high school or collegiate use, there is an important decision that will need to be made soon. Indoor volleyball court surfaces in a school setting can vary depending on the needs of the school. Many facilities will need to incorporate not only a high quality volleyball court floor, but will also need to incorporate a basketball court that is an auxiliary space for wrestling, cheerleading, congregations and many more. Luckily, there are a number of options to consider to maximize the flexibility of the space, and modular tiles lead the pack in terms of flexibility and portability.
Benefits of Modular Tiles for Volleyball Court Flooring
Indoor modular tiles for volleyball court use have a number of benefits that go beyond the standard "new floor feel". Some of the many benefits of an indoor modular volleyball court floor tile, such as our ProGym tile can be seen below:
Mateflex ProGym Indoor Volleyball Court Surface Used Over an Existing Hardwood Basketball Court
- Court Portability: ProGym can be installed for temporary/seasonal use, or can be used full time as a permanently installed surface as well
- Added Versatility: Even those with a high-end hardwood court surface can benefit from the addition of a modular tile system. By temporarily placing the surface over your existing floor, you can easily add a colorful pop in your gym to help boost school pride!
- Boosted Player Comfort and "Slide-ability": Your players will appreciate a surface that both absorbs some of the vertical force that jumping and diving can impose on joints, but will REALLY appreciate the rounded corners and sides that ProGym offers due to the ability to slide as needed during play. No more snagged jerseys or even worse, cut skin. Not only does this provide the obvious benefit of increased comfort, but it will also provide peace of mind for players, allowing them to play their best in a worry-free environment.
- More Options for a Customized Layout: Your modular surface can be fully customized to fit your space and color scheme. For short-term installs, we can either permanently paint your surface so the lines will always be intact, or your installation crew can apply fresh game lines with a 2” vinyl tape so the installation is easier and the game lines show minimal wear.
- Increased Affordability: as mentioned, utilizing a modular tile system as a permanently installed surface is normally a lower lifespan cost than opting for a product that can successfully cover all bases, such as a hardwood surface or a poured urethane surface. Those options usually require a higher level of maintenance and care, and certainly have a higher cost over the lifespan of the product.
ProGym by Mateflex is an excellent option for indoor volleyball courts specifically, as it features rounded corners for increased player comfort and safety, and pack up is very simple should you need to move your court to a new facility, or just to pack away for the season. For best results, an underlayment option is available as well, this will provide added cushion, reduced noise, and prevent damages to any underlying surface as well. This option is not necessary however, you can play the ProGym directly over a concrete or hardwood base if preferred.

In some cases, modular sports flooring can be installed over a thin carpet with a very low pile, but typically we recommend a hard, flat, and level subfloor like concrete, asphalt, or VCT (vinyl composite tile) to ensure stability and proper performance. Thicker carpet is too soft and will not provide a suitable base.
